Bill Toy passed away peacefully on March 9, 2017. He was born and raised in Stockton and was the 4th of 8 children. Bill worked on the family farm during high school and graduated from Stockton High School in 1943. He joined the Army Air Corps after high school but was active less than a year when WWII ended.

Bill wanted to be a pilot, but his eyesight wasn’t very good so he drank carrot juice hoping to improve his eyesight. Bill went to college on the GI Bill. He started at UC Davis majoring in Agricultural Engineering but ended up graduating from UC Berkeley with a B.S. in Engineering in the Civil Engineering discipline.

After college, Bill farmed with the family on Roberts Island until 1952. On March 9, 1952, he married Mary Gong with whom he had 3 children: Dennis, Kevin, and Valerie. Bill tried his hand in the restaurant business opening The Rickshaw Chinese restaurant with a few of his brothers but decided to use his college education and went to work for Caltrans for 30+ years working as a Registered Engineer until his retirement.

Bill is survived by his 3 children; sons Dennis Toy and Kevin Toy (Karin) both of Stockton and daughter Valerie Wolfenden (Tim) of Mission Viejo. He will be dearly missed by his 8 grandchildren: Matthew, Samuel, Justin, Brandon, Jennifer, Daniel, Dylan, and Jessica.

Visitation will be on March 17th from 11am - 1pm with the service immediately following at DeYoung Shoreline Chapel. Interment will follow at Parkview Cemetery.
